Wonderfully uplifting
Some Different Stuff in this One.Most of the quotes are different from what we hear every day, citing a very wide range of Quoted Persons. Sources range from Goethe to Oprah Winfrey. Now that's a wide range! Familiar folks like Mark Twain ("Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been") and Martin Buxbaum ("A dog wags it's tail with it's heart") and interspersed with more modern figures like Barbara Bush ("Believe in something larger than yourself.")
A table of contents organizes the subject areas (sixteen major categories) and an index of authors enables the reader to find a favorite source quickly.
Looking for some different quotes? Some though-provoking words from Shakespeare, Alan Alda, Brooker T. Washington, and more? This book will be a good investment. Recommended for coffee tables and waiting rooms.
Lift Your Spirits Quote Book

A GOOD LOOK AT A NICE GUYA MUST READ.
Excellent insight to the Raider organization!
Sometimes Nice Guys Finish FirstThe real heroes of this book are Marcus' parents, Harold (Red) and Gwen Allen, who put the necessary time and effort into providing their children with the integrity that has made Marcus successful.
This is a book of contrasts and conflicts, the first of which are with Al Davis, owner of the Oakland Raiders. Marcus despises Al and is candid in describing his reasons. Anyone who is not familiar with Al Davis might think Marcus is exaggerating, but those who are familiar with him will find the criticism reasonable, if not understated. Corroboration for his descriptions of Al's eccentricities may be found in "Slick: The Silver and Black Life of Al Davis" by Mark Ribowsky [ISBN: 0-02-602500-0], a highly entertaining biography that is now out of print but may be available through a used-book service.
The other interesting contrast is that between Marcus and his friend O.J. Simpson. As Marcus described Nicole Simpson's death and the subsequent murder trial, I kept asking how these two men, similar in so many ways, could have ended up so differently. As I said at the outset, the real heroes of the book are Marcus' parents.

Must have for new designers
This book directly applies to your work!
Guidance from the MasterI have known Mike Allen since I worked for Authorware in the 1980's. One of the things I always regretted was not working in the MN office, as he, along with the rest of the Authorware team, conducted critiques of the work in progress being developed for customers. The few I did attend were always insightful and thought provoking. Along with being pretty scary if your work was on the agenda, because you might have to listen to bad along with good feedback. Mike Allen is a kind person, but not one to mince words when it comes to what makes up good and bad eLearning. I've also had the opportunity to attend several lectures by Mike on eLearning.
This book shares his insight on what makes good elearning, particularly from the viewpoints of motivation and interactivity. I am starting a new project with a lot of possible impact and reading his book has helped me immensely. Also, it contains several little history lessons on eLearning and Authorware that I really enjoyed. Lots of examples of good projects are discussed and included on a CD-ROM that unfortunately is not included in the book, but available for free from his website. If you are really interested in learning more on what makes good eLearning, I would definitely order it soon.

This is must have Model Railroading Book
Model Railroading with John AllenI bought a copy for a friend in England who is also a master of the arts. Highly recommended both for the text and the ideas!
Magnificent

Great book for inspirationSmith uses the popular concept of "garden rooms" to illustrate twelve principles - Enclosure, Shape and Form, Framing, Entry, Focal Point, Structures, Color, Texture, Abundance, Whimsy, Mystery and Time. Each of these are illustrated with lush photos of Smith's own garden as well as his clients gardens.
The last section of the book discusses techniques and ideas on how to plan and construct your garden. Lists of plants are provided for specific situations.
Overall, a well designed, photographed and written book.
Gardening made easy
A beautiful way to look at creating beautiful gardens!

Steve Allen rides through the storm
Cute book
A pleasurable read

A classicHowever, some developments in the past few years outpace his treatment. In particular, the stochastic viewpoint has become more common in natural-language processing, and Allen does not consider related innovations in great depth. Passing mention of the interaction between NLP and the speech processing and information retrievals would also benefit a revised version.
Now THERE'S a good book!I'd love to tell you more, but I only stopped by to catch the author's name and look for whitepapers on his (hopefully existant) website.
A great text, and useful referenceThe TRAINS project at Rochester (the author's institution) was based on many of the concepts outlined in this book... proof that they work and can be made to handle real-world situations.
I continue to use it, now in its second edition as a reference for myself, and to train those who need to work with our project.
I cannot recommend a book more highly. If you want to learn computational linguistics, or need to push the state of the art, this is the book you need.
Mr. Klein's newest collection of quotations is my favorite so far. Divided into the eight broad categories of Applause (praise), Arts, Beauty, Creativity, Family, Friendship, Heart, and Lighten Up, these are short, inspirational quotations that really can lift your spirits. I love opening the book at random and dipping into a few quotes.
A few of my favorites are, "love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here" (Marianne Williamson); "The place to improve the world is first in one's own heart and head and hands" (Robert Persig); and "Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light" (Helen Keller).
